Suspect is a 1987 crime thriller set in Washington D.C. starring Cher as Kathleen Riley, the Defense Attorney for a deaf-mute vagrant, played by Liam Neeson, who is accused of murdering the secretary of a judge who has recently committed suicide. Dennis Quaid, as Eddie Sanger, is a juror on the case who starts to give tips to Riley on the case, challenging her assumption that Neeson is guilty. Sanger ultimately falls in love with Riley as they investigate the case further. It has been widely regarded as a low-key, though tense, stylish and successful thriller. The film has been credited for the high quality of acting despite the severe loopholes of the story. In particular, Cher, in the lead role, has received positive reviews.
