1992's Cool World marked Ralph Bakshi's return to feature films after nine years and his last feature film to date. Bakshi wrote the original screenplay, which was ordered by producer Frank Mancuso Jr. to be heavily re-written. The final version of the screenplay, written by Michael Grais and Mark Victor (and an uncredited Larry Gross) barely resembled the story that Bakshi conceived.
