Battle Angel is an upcoming live action film based on the popular manga Battle Angel Alita (known as Gunnm in Japan) by Yukito Kishiro. The film adaptation by director James Cameron has been confirmed by original manga author Yukito Kishiro. In December 2005, James Cameron announced that he is looking for a lead female role (ages 16-mid 20s) for Battle Angel. The movie was set to start production in February 2006 but has been pushed back to 2009 because of script problems and Cameron's decision to film Avatar first. Described as "mega-budget", it will be the first live action film employing a fully computer generated humanoid lead character. Alita will be CG, but an actress will perform her movements and emotions through a highly advanced and improved version of Performance capture, a motion capture technique similar to what was pioneered by Robert Zemeckis in The Polar Express and Peter Jackson in The Lord of the Rings (film).
