:48:01
Yesterday we reported the
tragic story of Ruth Stoops,
:48:04
an indigent woman charged
with criminally endangering
:48:07
the life of her fetus
because of her drug use.
:48:09
Members of an anti-abortion
group, the "Baby Savers,"
:48:12
have paid her bail
and taken her in
:48:15
while she awaits hearing.
:48:16
And today, they brought her
along to their daily protest.
:48:19
Action News 4's Cindy Lindstrom
was there.
:48:21
As anti-abortion protesting
continued today
:48:24
outside the Women's
Health Services Clinic,
:48:26
Ruth Stoops showed up
:48:27
alongside "Baby Savers" local
chairman Norm Stoney.
:48:31
Stoops declined to speak
with us on camera today,
:48:33
but Stoney tells us she does
not plan to have an abortion.
:48:37
He thinks her unusual case
could set a precedent.
:48:40
We're amazed that the state
can seek to punish someone
:48:43
for endangering
their preborn baby
:48:44
and then allow them to kill it
through abortion.
:48:46
Now, we hope, and Ruth hopes,
that the absurdity of this case
:48:49
will make crystal clear
:48:51
the fundamental
unconstitutionality of abortion.
:48:54
This simple woman,
this quiet voice will send
:48:56
a deafening message that
abortion must be stopped.
:48:59
Oh, man! I never said
anything like all that.
:49:03
He knew I didn't want anybody
knowing about me.
:49:06
Stoney said Stoops' number-one
priority right now
:49:10
is to get off drugs
and alcohol.
:49:12
Cindy Lindstrom,
Action News 4.
:49:16
That's probably Gail.
:49:18
...deadly explosión at a
chemical plant in Sioux City.
:49:30
Hello?
Oh, hi, Gail.
:49:33
I sure did.
:49:35
Where'd you see it?
:49:36
Uh-huh.
Oh, I kno... I know.
:49:38
I'm sure it'll send
a great message.
:49:41
Channel 7, too? Whoo!
:49:44
We...
Oh, sh... she's doing fine.
:49:48
Just fine.
No problems at all.
:49:50
Well, you know something?
:49:52
Actually, she just stepped
into the shower.
:49:54
No, I didn't!
:49:55
Oh, my goodness.
Here she is now.
:49:58
...Ruth, it's Gail.
...I know.
