May God be with you.
1:48:09
And you, as well.
1:48:21
This is Andy Davis,
the director of A Perfect Murder.
1:48:24
I want to welcome you
to our DVD commentary.
1:48:27
You're about to see a variation
on the ending which we tried...
1:48:31
...as an alternative
to the perfect murder.
1:48:35
We felt the ending was powerful
and strong. And yet...
1:48:39
... there was something about
the smartness of this movie...
1:48:42
...and the character of Michael.
1:48:44
We felt maybe he shouldn 't
resort to violence with his wife.
1:48:48
He's been able to talk himself
out of everything all along.
1:48:52
So we tried an ending where,
basically...
1:48:55
... Gwyneth questions him about
the key, leaves the apartment...
1:48:59
...and Michael goes to the back door
to retrieve the key.
1:49:02
As he comes back in,
the phone rings.
1:49:04
The famous phone
in the kitchen rings.
1:49:07
And he knows she's playing with him.
Somebody is playing with him.
1:49:11
He picks up the phone,
and the same scene that we have now...
1:49:14
...is played in the kitchen,
where she confronts him.
1:49:43
The reason we decided to stay
with the ending we have now is:
1:49:48
Both endings tested highly...
1:49:50
...but the ending we have now
gave Gwyneth a more moral base.
1:49:53
She did not demean herself
by acting...
1:49:56
...in a heinous way like the men
who she had been a part of.
