:12:02
Just the meanest-Iooking thing
coming through the brush.
:12:06
So I jumped on the airplane
real quick and untied it.
:12:08
And took off. Turned around,
flew over camp there.
:12:15
Just looked down
and saw a human rib cage
:12:18
that I knew had to be
either Tim or Amie laying there.
:12:22
And he was just eating that.
:12:24
And as l...
So I circled around again.
:12:27
Got really low,
and tried to run him off.
:12:29
Just over and over again with the airplane.
Every time I would come over,
:12:33
he'd just start eating faster
and faster and crouch over
:12:37
this rib cage there.
:12:39
And right at that time,
:12:42
I just realized, "Wow!
:12:46
I was pretty close to gettin' eaten myself"
is what I thought.
:12:50
And this shot of adrenalin like
I've never had just came over me.
:12:53
And my throat went...
couldn't breathe.
:12:56
My face went numb.
My arms and legs went numb.
:13:00
And then I called back...
:13:03
back to the office,
:13:05
and told them what happened out here,
what I thought had happened.
:13:08
And that we would need some assistance
out here. That we had some problems.
:13:16
After the Park Service arrived,
then I'm leading them up through the alders.
:13:20
This is the same trail
that I'd come up the first time.
:13:23
We got to about right here,
and we just stopped.
:13:27
We stopped just to take
a look around.
:13:29
Right then, one guy with us
just yells, "Bear!"
:13:34
And they all spin around. These gun barrels
come over the top of my head.
:13:38
Boy, they just start
firing them off.
:13:40
I ducked down 'cause
they hadn't given me a gun.
:13:42
I'd look up, and they'd fire
over and over again.
:13:45
Then I look up when they're done firing
and there's just a cloud of smoke here.
:13:50
I look over, and the bear
is laying right there.
:13:53
They're yelling at me,
just don't go near the bear.
:13:56
I knew he was dead.
:13:58
He'd been shot in the head
and the neck and everywhere.
