I was moved to find that among
all memorabilia in the house,
1:01:08
his mother was clutching
Timothy's favorite bear.
1:01:11
This has been to Alaska
many times.
1:01:15
I'm sure he loved it
to the end, you know?
1:01:18
It's just... his childhood toy.
1:01:22
Tim's childhood pointed towards
nothing extraordinary.
1:01:27
A normal everyday kid.
1:01:29
Never any trouble in school.
Always a good student.
1:01:34
Not an "A" student,
a "B" student.
1:01:36
And got along great
with kids and animals.
1:01:41
Him and I were extremely connected
to animals in the house.
1:01:44
I think more so
than anybody else.
1:01:48
This squirrel named Willie
1:01:50
became Timothy's best friend.
1:01:53
Teddy bears meant a lot to him.
1:01:57
He seemed to develop into
an all-American boy, handsome,
1:02:02
athletic, full of promise.
1:02:07
He excelled on
his high school swim team.
1:02:11
He went to Bradley University
on a diving scholarship.
1:02:16
I think he started drinking
out there and having,
1:02:20
you know, just hanging out
with the wrong people.
1:02:22
Then he injured his back.
And he ended up
1:02:25
losing his scholarship
and coming back home.
1:02:28
He did attempt to smoke
marijuana in the house.
1:02:32
Yeah, he did.
1:02:34
But I put the kibosh on that.
1:02:36
But obviously he was
doing it elsewhere, so...
1:02:39
He really wanted a new start,
a fresh start.
1:02:43
So when he went out to California,
he was 19 or 20.
1:02:47
He wasn't a young 15 or 16-year-old.
He was of age.
1:02:51
He'd gotten a job just to make money
on the Queen Mary at the gift shop.
1:02:57
He did hire an agent.
