Lulu on the Bridge (1998) is the directorial debut of acclaimed author Paul Auster. In it a saxophone player (Harvey Keitel) is shot and loses a lung, forcing him to abandon his musical career. He begins an obsessive romance with a young actress (Mira Sorvino), which somehow involves a blue stone with magical properties. Despite a cast that also includes Kevin Corrigan, Gina Gershon, Mandy Patinkin, Willem Dafoe and Vanessa Redgrave, the film's meandering pace, convoluted plot, and half-baked supernatural overtones doomed it to obscurity.
