Hallelujah The original Hallelujah film is about African-American sharecroppers. It was made in 1929 by King Vidor, and is considered by many film buffs to be ahead of its time. Its treatment of African-Americans is a sharp contrast to the fear and racism displayed in Birth of a Nation, which came out about the same time. All the actors and actresses are black, and there are many scenes featuring African-American popular and religious music.
