Rebecca
:01:39 [ Woman ] Last night
I dreamt I went to Manderley again.
:01:43 It seemed to me I stood by the
iron gate leading to the drive,
:01:47 and for a while
I could not enter...
:01:50 for the way was barred to me.
:01:52 Then, like all dreamers,
:01:54 I was possessed of a sudden
with supernatural powers...
:01:58 and passed like a spirit
through the barrier before me.
:02:02 The drive wound away
in front of me,
:02:05 twisting and turning
as it had always done.
:02:08 But as I advanced, I was aware
that a change had come upon it.
:02:13 Nature had come
into her own again,
:02:15 and little by little
had encroached upon the drive...
:02:19 with long, tenacious fiingers.
:02:23 On and on wound the poor thread
that had once been our drive,
:02:28 and fiinally
there was Manderley.
:02:32 Manderley--
secretive and silent.
:02:35 Time could not mar the perfect
symmetry of those walls.
:02:39 Moonlight can play
odd tricks upon the fancy,
:02:43 and suddenly it seemed to me that light
came from the windows.
:02:50 And then a cloud
came upon the moon...
:02:53 and hovered an instant
like a dark hand before a face.
:02:57 The illusion went with it.
